Advanced Vocal Technique with Deborah Jeans

This Fall, nationally acclaimed Soprano and Vocal Coach, Deborah Jeans, offers a 10-week vocal and choral course for advanced singers at The HAT. Participants will be challenged to hone their skills through group sessions in vocal technique, harmony, and advanced choral singing. At the heart of Deborah Jeans is her ability to help people find their singing voices and to experience joy through the art of singing. Advanced experience levels encouraged.

Participants must be 16 years of age or older.

This exciting session starts October 14th and runs for 10 consequetive weeks. Limited availability, so book right away!

Deborah began to sing at a very early age in her native Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, where she received her early musical education and exposure to solo singing. Later, she graduated from the University of Toronto, Faculty of Music, with an Honours Bachelor degree in voice performance, and later, a Diploma in Operatic Literature and Performance Practise. She graduated with distinction, and was awarded the Josephine Harper Award as the most outstanding female singer in her graduating year. A winner of a number of competitions and awards, among them study grants from the Canada Counsel, Deborah Jeans studied voice and interpretation of classical repertoire in Rome, New York and Austria. Her performance credits include the Canadian Opera Company, Vancouver Opera Association, Pacific Opera Victoria and Opera-in-Concert, Toronto.

In Toronto, Ms. Jeans operated Viva Voce Voice Studio for sixteen years. Some of her former students are graduates of McGill University, University of Western Ontario, Queen’s University and the University of British Columbia.

Testimonials:

"Having Deborah Jeans’ help to formulate my early training as a singer was the best thing that could have happened to me! Deborah helped me to recognize my own potential abilities and also to believe in myself. She taught me the skills I would later use in my craft as a performer. Sensitive, caring teachers like Deborah Jeans are almost impossible to find!"

  • Ann Rowe, Canadian soprano living and working in Salzburg, Austria

"Deborah Jeans was my first voice teacher. She helped me to discover my voice and opened it to a powerful, focused sound of more than two and a half octaves, capable of singing with many colours. She is a talented educator and a strong force in the Canadian vocal scene. I feel that my work with her is one of the reasons I can now call myself a professional singer."

  • Ryan Field, Canadian actor (Stratford Festival) & singer
