Introduction to Theatre for High Schoolers with James FW Thompson

Have you done theatre before and want to develop those skills with a group? Have you seen a play and thought 'I could try that!'? Have you got a voice that needs to be heard? Have you got nowhere else to go and would like to hang out with a group of cool people who do plays and stuff? Are you in Grades 9-12? If you answered yes to any of those questions (and even if you didn't) then Introduction to Theatre for High Schoolers is for you!

Participants must be Grades 9-12.

James FW Thompson is a writer, teacher, theatre-person, and dad. He got hooked on writing when he had a story published in the second grade. Since then he’s written a bunch of plays (The True Meaning of Cape Breton, Cop Life, Black Jack IV—he even won awards for a few of them!), some short stories, and even a novel a couple of years back. It’s about the time zombies took over Cape Breton in the 80s. Remember when that happened? He also acts (most recently 'Masque of the Red Death') and directs (most recently 'Night of the Living Dead') from time to time. He's a regular jack-of-all trades, though not particularly great at any particular trade.

He was born and raised in Cape Breton, where he lives with his wife, Erin, his kids, Seamus and Frances, and cat, Zombie. He’s a proud member of the Dead Puppets Society, and a teacher with the CBVRCE. He likes board games, movies, and a good cup of tea—though he’d take hot chocolate in a pinch. He dislikes writing bios of himself, for some reason, despite his incredible vanity.

Classes for Introduction to Theatre for High Schooler will run on Tuesday evenings from 6:45 to 8:15PM starting October 6th, 2020 and running for 10 consecutive weeks.

If necessary, a storm day make-up class will be scheduled during regular class time the week of December 14th.
