INTRODUCTION TO COSTUME DESIGN for Adults with Kayla Cormier

Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes? Do you have a passion for fashion? Want to learn how to make your own clothing? If so this class may be for you. In Intro to Costume Design you will learn from the HAT’s own Technical Director, Kayla Cormier, how to take your designs from page to stage. This beginners class will cover the fundamentals of costume design for theatre, fashion history, and costume creation. You will have hands on experience, sewing your own designs and leave the course with a garment of your own making!

Participants must be 16 years of age or older.

About the Instructor: Kayla Cormier is a Cape Breton artist and has designed both set and costume for shows at the Boardmore Playhouse, The Savoy Theatre, and the Highland Arts Theatre where she is currently the Technical Director. Over the last three years at the HAT Kayla has been involved with projects such as the Bentinck St Murals and a total of 36 productions including: She Loves Me (Set), Mary’s Wedding (Set and Costume), West Moon (Set and Costume), and See Jane Run (Costume). Kayla is also a recent Vital Award winner for her work at the Highland Arts Theatre.

Class times for Introduction to Costume Design will run on Wednesday evenings from 6:15 to 8:15PM starting April 28th, 2021 and running for 8 consecutive weeks.

If necessary, a make-up class will be scheduled during regular class time the week of June 21st.
