COMEDY OF ERRORS by William Shakespeare Adapted and Directed by Mark Delaney

Summer sun is on its way, and with it, better days! With that in mind, the HAT is proud to announce our next Radical Access Mainstage Production with the revival of a beloved Cape Breton summer tradition: SHAKESPEARE IN THE PARK.

The COMEDY OF ERRORS is the Bard up to his old tricks, with mistaken identity and a dizzying mix of wit and slapstick, but it's also Shakespeare at his sharpest and quickest: despite being his single shortest play, it is widely considered to be his funniest.

This production will be directed by none other than BANDSHELL PLAYERS co-founder and frequent HAT contributor Mark Delaney. The play will be featured at three beautiful outdoor locations across the CBRM in partnership with CBRM Arts Connect:

OPEN HEARTH PARK in Sydney (July 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, & 15) INDIAN BEACH in North Sydney (July 9) ROSE SCHWARTZ MEMORIAL PARK in New Waterford (July 12)

All performances start at 7:00pm

Tickets: FREE thanks to Radical Access

While the production is general admission, it is essential that you reserve your tickets for you and your bubble to ensure we do not exceed provincial gathering limits in light of COVID-19. You won’t be able to reserve specific seats (it’ll be up to you to bring a blanket and stake out your own physically distanced grassy knoll!) but we will be able to guarantee you a spot on the night of your choice. Anyone without a ticket will be turned away (pending provincial limits).

~ An Experiment in Radical Access ~

In the light of this unprecedented time, we are trying something Radical: We have become the first Professional, Community-Funded Theatre in Canada. Thanks to ongoing monthly donations from people across Cape Breton and - indeed - North America, we have committed to offering all 12 Mainstage plays and musicals free of charge for a year. If we can maintain or grow this model, we would love nothing more than to continue this model forever. But in order to do that, we need your help.

We aren't going to charge you a cent for this ticket, but if you haven't done so already, we highly encourage you to go to our website and make a pledge for ongoing monthly dontions (you can also do a one-time donation if you prefer).

You'll receive:

1) A tax-deductible charitable receipt 2) Advance access to book for future Mainstage Productions 3) The knowledge that you are supporting a professional arts organization in downtown Sydney and helping create free access for everyone in the community.

For more information or to make your pledge, check out: http://www.highlandartstheatre.com/radical-access

Tickets: FREE OF CHARGE (although suggested donations of $25/ticket are welcome)

If you book your tickets and then do not need them, please let us know no less than 6 hours before showtime by e-mailing us at: info@highlandartstheatre.com

COVID-19 Protocols:

We are very grateful to have had such low cases of COVID-19 in Cape Breton, however, it is essential that we do not become overly relaxed or complacent. We will be complying with all provincial and federal recommendations and guidelines (and then some!). Please be advised that protocols could change at any time pending provincial order or increased risk.

All outdoor audiences will be limited to 100 people per performance Every bubbled group will be responsible to leave a six-foot "bubble" around their seats to ensure mandatory physical distancing. There will be no intermission, however, audiences will be permited to enter and exit as necessary to "freshen up".

We are committed to keeping our audience, staff, and artists safe and secure. If you have any feedback or concerns, please feel free to contact us at: info@highlandartstheatre.com

Thank you so much and see you soon at the HAT!
