THE PROLETARIAT

A World Premiere

Written & Directed by Michael McPhee

Do you ever feel like your phone is listening to you? Studying you? Training you?

In a dystopian future not too far from today, Declan Spivey stands in the wake of WW$. Torn between caring for his aging mother and the revolution he is reluctantly at the center of, the weight of the world rests on his shoulders. He is the tipping point. He is the Proletariat.

Inspired by the disturbing work of Tristan Harris (The Social Dilemma) and Jaron Laniers (Ten Reasons to Delete Your Social Media…) on how algorithms shape our society, the play is a direct reflection of our current cultural landscape. Our attention, democracy, and even free will have been compromised in an effort to make us more predictable customers. The play attempts to shine a light on this issue by asking the question, “What happens if these algorithms, whose sole purpose is to drive consumption, are taken to their most extreme level?”

From the author of "Tribe of One", winner of multiple Robert Merritt Awards
